me and alice walker, we got a real good thing going.
i read Meridian last semester and kind of fell in love with her words and her voice.
today i was looking for some books about God and people, about the intersection of progressive thought, liberal ideals, youngsters like ourselves, and faith, and instead walked away with You Can't Keep a Good Woman Down. I sat outside the bookstore as the sunlight was dimming and read the first short story. i just love her and i get her and its a plus that she's from georgia...and a woman.
tomorrow i trade in my Georgia license for a Massachusetts ID and my heart is a little heavy about it.
there is something about getting older and identity transformations and attachments and artifacts that represent our past that make me handing over this ridiculous picture of 16 year old me a little sour. its made me think about getting a georgia tattoo...with a tiny red heart in the southern region.
a little Alice Walker for you and yours...
he looked at me real hard. he laughed. short. they want what you got but they don't want you. they want what i got only it ain't mine. that's what makes 'em so hungry for me when i sing. they getting the flavor of something but they ain't getting the thing itself. they like a pack of hound dogs trying to gobble up a scent.
