sometimes weeks get tough and then they get tougher. sometimes, as i'm tripping over myself to get from one class to another, or standing in line at the copy machine, or finding a single moment of stillness during these tough weeks i'll catch myself whistling the tune to "ooh child" or "this little light." i'm fairly certain that"this little light" is my fighting song...the song that my heart sings when i don't ask it to, the one that reminds me to dig deeper and seek out inspiration if it's inspiration i need.
yesterday as the week came to a close i closed the door to my classroom and took some silence for myself. i crafted a letter, read, and tried to remember to be thankful. i found some good bits that brought me back to myself and wanted to share in case you are having a tough week, month, morning, and remind you that yes, child, things are gonna get easier.
"To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget."— Arundhati Roy
